7 Steps to Setting Goals That Actually Work
This is not just another article about goals.
This is a practical e‑magazine designed to help you move from thinking to doing. Whether you are building a business, changing your career, or simply wanting more clarity in life, these 7 steps will help you turn intention into action.
Read it slowly. Apply it immediately.
STEP 1 OF 7: WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS
Start by creating a big list of all your possible goals.
Write them down on paper or in a digital document. At this stage, do not worry about how you will achieve them. Just let them exist.
As you write, think about:
- Your current goals and the goals you once gave up on
- What you want to have, what you want to do, and who you want to be
- Goals related to:
- Health
- Self‑improvement
- Work and business
- Relationships
- Money
- Experiences
- Happiness and fulfillment
📌 Keep this list in a safe place.
Add new goals whenever inspiration strikes.
If you already know your top three goals, you may skip this step.
STEP 2 OF 7: PICK YOUR TOP THREE GOALS
Look at your big list and choose the three goals you want most of all.
Your strongest goals usually share these qualities:
- Just thinking about them gives you energy and excitement
- They help not only you, but also other people
- You feel a strong desire to work on them
- They are BIG and meaningful
These three goals represent your focus.
STEP 3 OF 7: PICK ONE GOAL TO START WITH
You now have three important goals.
👉 Choose one to begin with. This is not about abandoning the others. It is about concentration.
Progress accelerates when your energy is focused.
STEP 4 OF 7: TAKE ONE ACTION TOWARD GOAL #1
Example goal:
« I want to have an income of 6,000 EUR per month. »
Every big goal is achieved through many small action steps.
The moment you take one small step today, several things happen:
- You stop overthinking and start acting
- You learn how easy or challenging the goal really is
- You create momentum
- You end the day with progress
Examples of Small Action Steps:
- Write one paragraph
- Make one phone call or send one email
- Look up one piece of information
- Pay a small amount of money related to the goal
- Spend 10 focused minutes working on the goal
❓ What is one small action you can take today toward this goal?
STEP 5 OF 7: DECIDE THE EXACT TIME
Goals fail when actions are vague.
Instead of saying « I’ll do it later », decide: 🕒 What exact time today will you take this action step?
Write it down. When the time comes, act—no negotiations.
STEP 6 OF 7: WHICH OF THESE BARRIERS MIGHT STOP YOU FROM TAKING ACTIONS
Answer these questions:
- I may lose my motivation;
- I’ll get too busy;
- I’ll realize it is too hard to do;
- I’ll get distracted;
- I worry I will create a problem if I act today;
- I will forget;
- No barrier, i will not be stopped.
Which of these solutions will handle your barrier?
- I will find good reasons to do the action steps until I am motivated;
- I will ignore or remove all distractions;
- I won’t let fear stop me;
- I will set a reminder so I won’t forget.
- I ‘ll just get it done right now;
- I’ll make it go right
STEP 7 OF 7
As a result of taking one Action Step today, which of these benefits will be most valuable to you?
- I will stop thinking and planning and will start making some progress;
- I’ll take more control of my success;
- I will replace worry with action;
- I will be able to estimate how much work the goal will require
- I will end today with complete step forward
