SWOT analysis – the analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This is a tool used for strategic planning, to determine the goals of an organization.
I thought of this tool and decided that it can easily be used for self-development and introspection. I think it can be used quite well as a guiding tool for positive change for everyone. Why only organizations take advantage of SWOT analysis.
Let’s see how it can help us:
This step would give a little confidence to people who are not so confident and think it bothers them. Quite immodestly, write down 5 or more strengths that you think you have. You can even ask your partner, colleagues, or friends what they think are your strengths. You can be pleasantly surprised and find out something new about yourself or affirm what you already know.
What are those things you’ve always wanted to change in yourself? Sometimes you think for yourself: “If I wasn’t so irritable; If I didn’t procrastinate; Maybe if I was more confident; Yes, but I don’t know German”? Write yours. And here again, you can get help from a friend. You might be unpleasantly surprised, for example. It has happened to me and this definitely directs a positive change in me, despite the initial negativity of what I heard. It will be very useful for you to realize what you can change in yourself. Don’t keep them in your head, write them down, it’s important.
These are your future strengths. Boldly unleash your imagination without thinking about threats. They are the next point. In this you write down all the possibilities that may open up. You can help yourself by using point 2. By asking “If I didn’t have these weaknesses, what would be my options”? As well as What opportunities exist from the outside, the things that are offered with or without your participation. For example, if you have decided to change the company you work for, see what opportunities are available for your position elsewhere.
These are your potential weaknesses. What possibly can stop you? What can prevent you or who? Don’t confuse threats with your weaknesses. Threats are potential and external.
The SWOT analysis will reveal to you perspectives, ideas, problematic areas for improvement and assessment of your current situation. This is a great tool for setting goals and directions for action, as well as risk assessment when you decide to jump into the unknown. Make a strategic plan for a better self!
