Hello!👋
Not long ago, I spoke with the owner of several thriving companies who told me he struggled to find young people who really want to work. He was hoping to rejuvenate his team—whose average age is around 50—but kept hearing, “Hard-working young people just don’t exist anymore.” And he wasn’t the first to share this concern.
Are there truly no hard-working young people?
Or is this simply not true?
From our experience, every generation has the same proportion of productive, hard-working individuals. So, we decided to take a closer look.
When we reviewed his job posting, we noticed it was very general. There was no clear picture of the person he actually wanted to bring into the team. To fix this, we walked through a few key questions:
What does your ideal candidate look like?
Have you ever had someone in this role who was excellent? What made them successful?
What is the hardest part of this job—and what is the most enjoyable?
What results should this person deliver?
Which activities will lead to those results, and how do they benefit the company?
This simple “word game” made all the difference.
We rewrote the job ad and aimed it directly at an energetic, results-oriented person. The new posting clearly communicated that:
the leader knows exactly who he is looking for and what he expects,
the role brings a lot of work but also meaningful challenges,
strong performance is rewarded generously,
and the employee has real influence over their own earnings.
And the outcome?
He now has three young, hard-working team members, including one recent graduate.
From this experience, he discovered that clarity about who he wants dramatically increases the chances of finding them. A well-defined role leads to a well-written job ad—and yes, there are hard-working young people out there.
Our Tip💡
Don’t let stereotypes mislead you. Hard-working individuals exist in every generation. What matters most is having a clear picture of whom you want, what results they should deliver, and what opportunities and rewards you offer in return for great performance.
Wishing you success in finding exactly the people you need—regardless of age.
