Have you ever hired a great person with several years of experience who already knew « how the business works » and it just didn’t work out? Let’s take a look at why it’s sometimes better to give a chance to someone who doesn’t have experience in the field.

Trust achieved results, not years of experience

One of our clients was hiring for a sales position and had narrowed the search down to two finalists:

Candidate A: 5 years of industry experience and a solid understanding of the business.

Candidate B: Less industry experience, but exceptional energy, strong drive, and a proven track record of delivering results in previous roles.

At first, the client leaned toward Candidate A. The reasoning was understandable: « He’ll require less training and will be able to hit the ground running. » However, they ultimately decided to take a chance on Candidate B.

They had no idea what they had gained.

Within 3 months, he achieved better sales results than more experienced colleagues. He found the most effective ways himself, learned quickly and began to bring results without the need for constant guidance. Many companies still hire people based on resumes and experience. But in doing so, they often overlook the most important thing – a person’s natural productivity. Productivity is not something that is « learned over time ». It is a stable characteristic that affects learning speed, independence and results.

💡 Our Tip

When hiring, look for results, not just experience. Look for evidence of past performance. Trust that a capable person will learn faster than an « experienced » and average candidate. If you don’t believe in productivity, you may end up being average. When you start measuring productivity, you naturally open the door to other talent.
